BENNY HILL IS ALIVE AND WELL AS BRITAIN GOES BLIND

In ALL ARTICLES on September 23, 2011 at 7:00 am

Remember in the final scene of every episode of Benny Hill where he does something really scandalous and then gets chased by the entire cast around and around in circles?  Turns out, Benny Hill is ALIVE AND WELL and advising Britain on their medical protocols!  https://i2.wp.com/www.webtvwire.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/the-benny-hill-show-logo.jpg

You see, Britain, like the USA, is chasing this fleet footed “embryonic stem cell treatment comedy of errors” around and around in circles just like in the Benny Hill episodes.  Every week, the same scene is played out with Benny running, the entire cast chasing and he never gets caught.  So in Art, so in life.  Britain is chasing embryonic stem cells used for treatment of optic diseases.  And remember…

  • Embryonic stem cells STILL have ZERO successful clinical trials
  • Embryonic stem cells STILL cause cysts and tumors that can become cancerous (wait 20 years and ask again though)
  • Embryonic stem cells STILL have rejection issues that require immunosuppressive drugs
  • Embryonic stem cells STILL carry the genetic anomalies of the donor
ON THE OTHER HAND…

So on top of wasting time chasing a cure with no prior history of success and huge negative side effects, thy are running right past a treatment with a huge history of success and safety and trials.

So cue up the cameras, get everyone in costume and let’s start that famous music going as everyone chases embryonic stem cell treatments around and around.  Wait! STOP! Hold it! CUT!

How on earth can we explain the entire medical community and government running right past what already works?  Got it! Give them all blindfolds!  That way they can be assured to miss the forest but they will hit every damn tree in it and so will the patients, patiently waiting for treatments which will never come!

…annndddd   ACTION!!!

First trial of embryonic stem cell treatment in Europe gets green light

Patients in Britain with an eye disease that leads to blindness will take part in Europe’s first human embryonic stem cell trial

British surgeons are to take part in the first trial in patients of a human embryonic stem cell therapy to gain approval from regulators in Europe.

Surgeons at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London will inject cells into the eyes of 12 patients with an incurable eye disease called Stargardt’s macular dystrophy, one of the main causes of blindness in young people…

45-minute operation to restore sight to millions | Mail Online

In ALL ARTICLES, STEM CELLS IN THE NEWS on April 18, 2009 at 7:55 pm

Pun intended…how is this journalist so damn blind!  It’s fraud, in my eyes, no question about it.  How dare they make assertions like:

“British scientists are tackling the leading cause of blindness among the elderly in the developed world…

A revolutionary technique being developed by British scientists could cure blindness in millions of people around the world.

The first 45-minute operations could take place within five years and could be as commonplace as cataract surgery in a decade.

The improvement is likely to be great enough to transform lives, allowing the blind to regain the ability to carry out everyday tasks such as reading or driving.

The pioneering stem cell surgery tackles age-related macular degeneration (AMD)”

The truth is, it’s all just complete BS.  You don’t even have to work hard at this to uncover the blatant denial, deception or ignorance that is running rampant through the media.  Go ahead, I dare you.  Next time you see an “historic embryonic breakthrough” in regard to a disease, just google the name of the disease and the words “stem cell”.  Do you know what you get when you google “macular degeneration” and “stem cell?”

Mixed in with the “amazing breakthrough” BS of today’s embryonic stem cells story you will find articles dating back to 2006…(2006!) that speak to the therapeutic benefits of treating AMD with adult stem cells.

Why is it that adult stem cells treats thousands successfully with 130+ diseases and all you see are words like, “unproven”, “snake oil”, “more research needed”.

Embryonic stem cells show the remotest possibility of treating something and the horns are sounded, the confetti comes out and the doves are released.  But is it REALLY a reality?  Even the author of this article can’t make up his mind.  You don’t have to have an English degree to see this awkward and inconsistent mix of tenses.

  • First the articlesays they “are tackling the leading cause of blindness”.  That’s present tense, no?
  • Then they say  the “technique (is) being developed”…shouldn’t we revise the former sentence to indicate that this is a future expectation, not a current reality?
  • The they say it “could take place within five years”…that’s 5 YEARS OF  TACKLING!  Get out the ben gay!
  • “and could be as commonplace as cataract surgery in a decade”…now we have 10 year projections into the unproven science of embryonic stem cell treatments.
  • “The improvement is likely to be great enough to transform lives, allowing the blind to regain the ability to carry out everyday tasks such as reading or driving.”  This is what I call GROSS SPECULATION, SENSATIONALISM AND UNSUBSTANTIATED HYPE (what my grandfather used to call “horse puckey!”)
  • Next they say that embryonic stem cells will “solve world hunger, create world peace, end the water shortage and bring prosperity and happiness to all on earth”. (well, not really, but the rest of the statements were so far fetched I figured I could slip one more Paul Bunyan-esque claim in unnoticed)

SO, may I ask a few questions before we raise our first for this supposed embryonic stem cell treatment victory?

  • Have you solved the cancerous tumor issue inherent within embryonic stem cell treatments…or are you saying cancer will be cured within 5 years…or are you saying cancer is a legit trade off to regaining one’s sight?  “Good news is, our procedure cured your AMD…bad news is, you now have 3 months to live.”  Sounds like a pharmacuetical commercial. Hmmm…

In a trial of 23 patients, “most were able to produce their own insulin after a transplant of stem cells from their own bone marrow…Twenty of the 23 patients who received the treatment became insulin-free – one for as long as four years. Eight had to return to insulin injections, but at reduced levels.” Pretty miraculous, right?  But here’s the catch…those are results from adult stem cell treatments.  So what was said about this REAL treatment breakthrough?

  • “the importance of a limited extension to this study should not be overstated”
  • “this is not a cure for Type 1 diabetes”
  • “we would like to see this experiment carried out with a control group for comparison of results and a longer-term follow up in a greater number of people”
  • And this is one of my favorites: they think it might be “the timing of the treatment or possible side effects of it rather than the stem cell transplant itself”
  1. “The timing??”  You’re kidding, right?  20 out of 23 got better and maybe it was the timing?  Was it an astrological phenomena?  They got better because mercury was in retrograde?  Solar flares?  Tidal variations?
  2. “Or possible side effects”.  Explain this to me.  Please!  Are you saying that the side effects of the stem cell treatment was 20 out of 23 got better?  Isn’t that the damn point?  Are we so used to pharma commercials that we forgot that the effects or side effects of treatments can actually be positive?  If only insulin had those side effects, there would be 10’s of millions off of insulin and living normal lives.  “Side effects” are to blame? Unbelievable!

And finally, the best of the best…from the title…

45-minute operation to restore sight to millions

(seems pretty certain, doesn’t it) to the 2nd to last paragraph…

“…in medicine, sophisticated laboratory techniques mean it should be possible to generate a treatment for millions of people from cells derived from a single embryo.  Stem cell research offers hope for treating and curing a host of conditions.”

All you see in this article is hope, HOPE, HOPE for embryonic stem cell treatments!

Compare that to the last line in the adult stem cell diabetes article from 3 days ago.

“It would be wrong to unnecessarily raise the hopes of people living with diabetes about a new treatment for the condition on the back of the evidence provided in this study.”

This just goes to illustrate the blatant double standard between the media treatment of proven safe and effective adult stem cell treatments and the mere possibility of embryonic stem cell treatments that MIGHT happen 5-10 years out if they can cure cancer and rejection issues.

If you are going to be so incredibly duplicitous to the point of fraudulent claims and outright deception, please do me a favor and get better at it.  The American people can “see” right through this 2 faced farce. -dg

British scientists are tackling the leading cause of blindness among the elderly in the developed world

The pioneering stem cell surgery tackles age-related macular degeneration (AMD), the most common cause of blindness in the elderly. There are about 300,000 sufferers in this country and the number is expected to treble in the next 25 years to around one million as the population ages.

AMD, which affects a quarter of over-60s in the UK and more than half of over-75s to some degree, occurs in two forms. While the “wet” form can be combated with drugs, there is no treatment for the “dry” form which accounts for 90 per cent of cases.

The treatment centres on human embryonic stem cells grown in a laboratory. These are “blank” cells with the power to turn into different cell types and are used to create small patches identical to the cells damaged in the eyes of AMD sufferers.
