Terrell Owens: Get tested, and catch sickle cell before it can do damage.

Terrell Owens has sure hands that give defensive backs nightmares. But the San Francisco 49ers’ all-pro wide receiver says he knows from experience that when it comes to their health, too many people drop the ball.

“A lot of people simply don’t know whether they carry the sickle cell gene or not,” says Owens, “and that can spell trouble.”

Bone marrow (stem cell) transplants that replace the patient’s blood-making apparatus with donor cells from blood relatives have been successfully performed in a limited number of patients. The first child to receive an unrelated stem-cell transplant in 1998 was found to be free of sickle cells in March of this year.

  1. P.S let’s keep this and all issues in prayer, God can and will make a way, as long as we all believe, this will work out in the end, the courts can only delay the issue for so long, God will provide, lets keep the hope, let’s all have faith. AP

  2. I believe it is a good idea, Terrell is a great guy and this idea may help other black american’s do out and do the same thing(meaning helping someone else. Let’s not bash everything my baby do, let’s support him and see the differece it can make if we as the people keep an open mind. I know doctors do not always tell a person that they may have this trait, in order to keep our people healthy we need to encourage them to ask questions when they visit the doctors and also ask questions when you are dating someone to be sure you know what traits they maybe have, so you both will know going forward how to deal with it. I love you Terrell, If you have any questions on the information provided please contact me. Thanks
